Starting therapy brings up lots of questions. This therapy FAQ answers the ones people ask most. If yours isn’t here, just ask.
Getting started
How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If something feels heavy, confusing or stuck, or you simply want to understand yourself better, therapy can help. You don’t need a crisis or a diagnosis. The first session is a chance to see how it feels before committing to anything.
How do I book my first session?
Fill in the short form on the booking page with a few times that suit you. I reply personally, usually within two working days, to confirm.
Which service should I choose?
If you’re unsure, start with individual counselling. If you know your focus, choose one of the packages on the services page. We can always adjust after the first session.
What happens in the first session?
We get to know each other, talk about what brings you here and what you hope will change, and agree how to continue. You decide how much to share.
Sessions and therapy FAQ on format
How long is a session?
Sessions usually last around 50 minutes. Exact timings for packages are shared when you book.
Are sessions online?
Sessions are offered online by secure video call, so you can join from a quiet, private space that feels comfortable. Let me know in your booking request if you have a preference.
How often will we meet?
Weekly sessions are common at the start. Many people move to every two weeks over time. We decide together, and you can pause whenever you need.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you’re working on. Packages have a defined structure, while individual counselling is open ended. We review progress regularly so you always know where you stand.
What are the fees?
Fees depend on the service or package. They are shared clearly before your first session, with no surprises. Ask me anytime.
Approach and confidentiality
What kind of therapy do you offer?
I combine Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, the humanistic approach and the psychodynamic approach, adapted to you. Read more on the therapy approaches page.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes. What you share stays between us. The only exceptions are rare situations where there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, or where the law requires disclosure. I will always explain this clearly at the start.
What if I don’t click with you?
That’s okay and it happens. A good fit matters. You’re free to stop at any time, and I am happy to suggest other directions if that helps.
Do I have to talk about my past?
Only if and when you want to. Some people focus on the present. Others find it helpful to explore where patterns began. You set the pace.
Practical questions
What is your cancellation policy?
Please give as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule. Details are in the terms and conditions.
Is this an emergency service?
No. If you are in crisis or at risk, please contact your local emergency number or a crisis line via Find A Helpline. See the disclaimer for more.
How is my data handled?
